Reel Candy Charity Support
Reel Candy proudly supports the following charities:
The BillFish Foundation
The Billfish Foundation (TBF) was founded in 1986 with a mission of conserving billfish worldwide by the late Winthrop P. Rockefeller along with Tim Choate, Dr. Eric Prince and a group of fifty founding members. TBF’s keystone program, the traditional tagging program, was begun in 1990. Today, it has grown to be the largest international billfish tagging program in the world.
TBF’s initial focus was on research and educational programs. In 1990, their focus was expanded to include advocacy for responsible fisheries management, recognizing that influencing decision makers with sound science was a crucial step in successful billfish conservation.
Freedom Waters
https://freedomwatersfoundation.org/
Freedom Waters Foundation was founded in March 2006 by our current Executive Director, Debra Frenkel, a licensed clinical social worker, and yacht broker John Weller, who both still serve on our Board of Directors.
Debby has been involved with disabled sailing since 1999 and knew John through her previous employer. John is a six-time cancer survivor and fellow humanitarian who encouraged Debby to form her own non-profit organization. Originally focused on children with cancer, Freedom Waters Foundation has expanded to serve children and adults with life threatening illnesses and disabilities, at-risk youth, and veterans.
Freedom Waters Foundations Guiding Principals:
- To provide marine-based social, and environmental programs through direct service and community partnerships
- To offer opportunities that result in feelings of freedom, self-worth, accomplishment, and joy
- To build a greater sense of community, understanding, and tolerance through sharing individual uniqueness
- To work collaboratively with the boating public, marine industry, and philanthropic resources
Make A Wish Foundation
Make-A-Wish® grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories, on average, every 38 minutes.
We believe that a wish experience can be a game-changer. This one belief guides us. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.
Chasin a Dream Foundation
Chasin A Dream Foundation empowers families with children facing life-threatening illnesses by providing personalized, transformative support.
Our mission is to ease the burden on families with children battling cancer, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, and other life-threatening illnesses and disabilities by offering individualized assistance that promotes healing and hope.
Founder, Lori Griffith, previously worked in the healthcare industry for the past 18 years, giving her a first hand look at what these children and their families face on a day to day basis. Lori wanted to be able to make more of a direct impact by providing life-changing assistance year round so she dedicated herself to building Chasin A Dream Foundation, based on her belief in community and Locals Helping Locals.
