Excitement fills the air in early summer, with the commencement of several blue marlin fishing tournaments. In 1984, the 1st Annual Treasure Cay Billfish Tournament was held. By 1988, Treasure Cay had established itself as the #1 spot for catching blue marlin in the Bahamas. In 1996, a 1,030 lb. blue marlin, the second largest ever in the Bahamas, was caught off Treasure Cay. This is the first Blue Marlin “Grander” caught in the Abacos, and is on display in the Tipsy Seagull Bar. Last year was no disappointment with the NEW BAHAMIAN BLUE MARLIN RECORD 1119 pounds, caught during the Treasure Cay leg of the BBC. Treasure Cay is also the home a 2012 leg of the Bahamas Billfish Championship (BBC) Tournament held in the Abacos, Bahamas.
May and June are prime Blue Marlin fishing times and if it is a blue marlin you are looking to catch this is the best time to visit. The nearby fishing grounds are also known for their fabulous wahoo, tuna, mahi and sailfish, as well as bottom fishing. One can also stay close to land for a fabulous island hopping and snorkeling experience.
