Target Fish Species
Jupiter, Florida in Palm Beach County, is famous for all types of game fish as they migrate along the famed Sailfish Alley. Dolphin fishing on one of the Reel Candy Charter boats is easy since we can start fishing within three miles of the Jupiter Inlet where the Reel Candy is docked.
Sailfish Alley extending from Jupiter, Florida south to the night lights of Miami, the Reel Candy fishing team joins the search in the most sought after sport fish in the world. Sail fishing in Jupiter, during the winter months is probably the best in the world. Sailfish are very acrobatic and have a tendency to jump and make high speed runs.
Wahoo cruise the waters all year whether you are fishing Jupiter, Florida or in the Abacos, from Walkers Cay to Treasure Cay, from Marsh Harbour to the Hole in the Wall, and islands south like San Salvador, Bahamas, but the season really starts in October. During November, December and thru March, the bite is exceptional with multiple bites daily. Fish are caught mostly in the 25 to 60 pound range with a few hitting the 100 pound mark
Shark fishing is electrifying, and demanding. Our Reel Candy crew is experienced with the handling of sharks for your safety and theirs. Our crew has fished with some of the greatest shark hunters including world record holders in multiple line categories of both men and women’s divisions. Local names include, Clark and Connie Balsinger (11 sharks over 1000 pounds), Zack “Zacko” Gerzeny, Greg Dunley, and Chris Watkins. The Reel Candy team believes in conservation and make every effort to release ALL game fish to fight another day.
We can Kingfish year round off the Jupiter Beaches. Although November till April is the best time to target kingfish. From the Jupiter Inlet, where the Reel Candy is docked, we only have a short 2 mile run to start fishing. The “Smoker Kings” predominately follow the baitfish to Jupiter waters in January and February.
On the Reel Candy our swordfishing tactics off Jupiter, consist of drift fishing live or dead baits or a combination of live and dead baits. Although large carefully rigged dead squid is the preferred bait, we often use large blue runners, mackerel, or our sailfish favorite goggle eyes. Sometimes the wait is only a few minutes, other times the night drags into morning, but you stand an excellent chance of hooking or catching your swordfish on the Reel Candy on any given night of the year.
Tuna trips begin in April and we begin looking for the birds. Our tuna trips, commonly referred to as “Corner Trips” are a short 60 mile run as begin our early morning trek. These trips consist of one “long day” runs or the extended 3 fishing day weekend excursion. Yellowfin tuna normally are in the 30 to 50 pounds range, but we have caught some reaching 90 pounds.
Black Marlin, Blue Marling and Whie Marlin! Marlin are the most sought-after marlin species today, partly because of their wide distribution, which makes them available to a great number of anglers, and but mostly because they are capable of spectacular fighting ability and having the potential to reach great sizes. The pursuit of marlin has inspired and continues to inspire thousands of sport fishermen.
